07 Sep Raise pay with disaster relief
As Florida braces for one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded, in Texas nearly three dozen unions and central labor councils delivered items and services to those in need as the Lone Star State continues to dig out from the wreckage and flooding left by Hurricane Harvey.
Message of the Day—Raise Pay with Disaster Relief
Hurricanes and other disasters disproportionately hit poor people and communities of color.
Public efforts to rebuild Texas and, if need be, Florida, as well as other regions damaged by disasters, should include raising pay and decreasing inequality.
As we rebuild, we should fully invest to meet America’s infrastructure needs that have gone unmet for so long.
The investments will create millions of new jobs, train workers for rewarding careers in the building and construction trades, and leave America better prepared for future weather events.
