Sodexo wages are so low that many of us need to collect and recycle cans to pay for basic necessities.
Despite working 40 or more hours a week cleaning and disinfecting Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, we need to spend more hours collecting cans on the street and in our neighborhoods to pay our bills and provide for our families.Unfortunately, Sodexo is more concerned with profits than with providing fair wages and affordable health insurance for workers and adequate staffing levels and safety for our patients.
While Sodexo brings in a billion dollars a year, its low wages, high turnover, and chronic short staffing are undermining our hospital’s infection-control standards.
In 2016, the California Department of Public Health cited Fountain Valley Regional for 16 separate violations of the state’s infection control program, including failure to train and equip housekeeping staff to disinfect crucial patient care areas, including the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Operating Room.
We demand better wages and benefits and increased staffing.
