Prevailing Wage Victory in Buena Park PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 May 2008

Thanks to over 500 union members, the Buena Park City Council overturned the decision of the Charter Exploratory Committee to exclude prevailing wages language from the City Charter.  With Labor’s strong presence and union members who reside in Buena Park speaking in support of prevailing wages, at its May 27, 2008 city council meeting, Buena Park Council Members voted unanimously to include the following language in its City Charter:

“The provisions of California Labor Code Section 1770 et. seq. regarding prevailing wages on public works and related regulations, as now existing and as may be amended, are accepted and made applicable to the City, its departments, boards, officers, agents and employees.”

Again, thanks to all the union members who turned out and made this victory possible! However, the fight is not over. We need a strong showing, if not stronger, at the June 10, 2008 City Council meeting when Council Members will cast its final vote on whether or not to put the City Charter issue on the November ’08 ballot.
