15 Dec Press Conference and March in Irvine to Demand Representative Mimi Walters to Stop the GOP Tax Plan

IRVINE, CA - The Orange County Labor Federation (OCLF) along with 90+ labor unions, health advocates, faith, senior groups, and community allies will come together for working families to demand Representative Mimi Walters to vote no on the GOP Tax bill. This GOP’s atrocious tax plan will have a profound impact to California’s job market and health coverage.  The tax plan gives billions of dollars in tax breaks to companies that profit and outsource jobs, and will fund those tax breaks by cutting healthcare for hard working Americans.  In fact, the bill would raise taxes for many middle-income families in California by eliminating state and local tax deductions and will also increase costs of healthcare coverage. The press conference and rally will bring together the community to stand with working families and will fight every attempt by the Trump administration and GOP leaders to cut services and programs that working families rely on. These programs include healthcare, social security, Pell Grants and financial aid to help students afford college. 14 Jul Hands Off Our Paid Sick Days

Congresswoman Mimi Walters (CA-45) has been working with corporate and HR groups on national legislation that would create a voluntary threshold for paid sick days or flexible schedules - any employer who meets this federal threshold would NO LONGER HAVE TO COMPLY with state and local paid sick days laws and possibly others as well. This legislation would set a horrible precedent and negatively impact the health and well-being of our families and communities. They will pitch this bill as 'workplace flexibility,' but the employer gets to decide if the time you want would 'unduly disrupt' their business, and would likely have control over other factors as well. We need your help: Join us in calling on Rep. Walters to back down from promoting this legislation.   Call her office to say NO to the Corporate "Safe Harbor". Here is a phone script and number to call. When:  July 14, 2017 and July 21, 2017 Time: 10:00 AM Phone #: (949)263-8703 For more information, visit California Work & Family Coalition.  ...
